Mexico.

We are now officially beginning week 3 post vacation and the scowls are slowly starting to disappear. Apparently no one is coming to make my bed, clean my bathroom, or bring me fruit mid morning and desert and a bottle of champagne around 5. I am finding this to be Bullshit. So in order to relish a little more in our fabulous trip, I guess I will document it for you..

Excitement on the plane...

We took off very early from Omaha and landed in Cancun by 11:30 a.m. I don't think Matt really realized what we were doing or where we were going until we got there. My goal was to relax, be pampered, and pretend we are rich trust fund kids...Matt on the other hand didn't have a plan.. In a very unlike Matt move, he did not research or look into this trip at all. I researched, planned, and booked everything..he paid for it. So I guess it was a fair trade. But it was all worth it seeing the excitement build in his face once we landed and headed towards the resort. I had arranged a car service so when a Towncar that resembled "Big's" from SATC, pulled up with drinks and cool towels Matt was all in. He now makes me pull his car to the front of our house in the morning before he leaves for work. I have to hand him the keys and I am not allowed to make eye contact with him... it is getting annoying...

Our resort was north of Cancun about a half hour so we had a bit of a car ride. It was an interesting drive. More so to Matt than me. I see poverty, dark alleys, and horrible living conditions. Matt sees homes he wants to go in, grocery stores he wants to purchase food from, and bars he wants to have a drink in... he has seen way too many shows on Discovery and yearns to be an adventurer.

Our room was absolutely beautiful and overlooked the Ocean. This was my only prerequisite for the trip. I love the water and I wanted to see it at all times. Very Debbie of me. A partial view or pool view would not do for MoMo. I had to wake up and see the water every single day. It cost me (well Matt) more, but it was so worth it.

Accommodations..

We immediately put on our suits and headed to the beach. I was so excited. It felt just like when I was a kid and the pool opened up for the summer. My suit and sunscreen were on so fast!

We feel into a routine pretty quickly. Sunday we were both good and woke up and went and worked out.. I was basically done working out after that. Matt would still go in the morning, but I got sidetracked with sleeping or eating croissants. We then would head to the beach from mid morning till mid afternoon, a late lunch, followed by "trolling" in the lazy river pools. This would conclude with snacks from the Excellent lounge and showers. Matt would nap in the room with air conditioning and black out drapes, just like he prefers. I would nap out on the balcony and wake up to darkness only to get dressed up to eat and drink some more.. And we did this for 7 DAYS!!

My napping spot..

We met lots of interesting people on our trip. The Canadians and Brits were the most fun to hang out with it. The Americans on the other hand were assholes. They drove us nuts. The douchebags outnumbered the normals. One of the nicer American couples we met walked by us one day wearing the most amazing t-shirt.. any idea what it said? It said, "Des Moines. Hell Yeah." That made our day.

We went to dinner with a nice young couple from Monterrey, Mexico, named Daniel and Christi. They are two of the most well-rounded and intelligent individuals we have ever met. We also spent some time with a fabulous British couple.. I taught them the term Douchebag and they taught me the term Slag. A slag is basically a Skank times a 1000.. I have found this term a wonderful addition to my vocabulary.

They also said Matt looked like a very popular Soap Opera Star from England. We googled the actor and you be the judge. (Max on East Endess) Looks like the Brits have a thing for sexy balding men.. I could have told them that is the way too goo...

Since we were on vacay during the royal wedding it was a lot of fun discussing the event with the Brits. Lots of tabloid talk of the Wedding, Diana and conspiracy theories, and a little who'd you rather...Harry or William. I say Harry. William will take you to a nice restaurant, but Harry will keep the drinks coming and get inappropriate on the dance floor with you...totally my style.

A Great Dinner With Daniel & Christi

My one "hot" dress for the vacay.

Trolling was one of our favorite things to do! This required getting full Electric Lemonades or Midnight Flight to Malibu's and a raft. Matt would walk and push the raft while I half leaned on the raft and would drag my legs through the water. We would like to say we invented this, but we saw many a couple doing this. This would ensue for a couple of hours with a couple of Crazy Ivan Turns thrown in.(360's with the raft, Matt said it is what submarines do to alert their enemies to stay back, so we needed to do it too.) We would also stop for handstand contests periodically, but that is to be expected.

Matt Trolling Alone

InStyle Please!

We did not partake in any "extra" activities besides eating, drinking, sleeping, and drinking. We had planned on snorkeling and/or taking a trip to the Isla Mujeres which we were across from, but somehow our eating, sleeping, and drinking got in the way. Matt did windsurf and he got pretty good at it. He now thinks we need to purchase one for the lake so he can be a badass. I mostly just read lots of celebrity magazines and Bossypants, and that was just fine by me.

The whole week was fantastic. I feel very lucky that we got to experience a 5 Star Resort. It was completely and totally worth it. I know there are nicer resorts out there and maybe one day we can experience those too, but we really, truly had a blast.

The resort was amazing. If you are planning on going on a Mexican vacation please check out the Excellence La Playa Mujeres. There are 8 different restaurants, no reservations, and all of them fabulous. We had Italian, Indian, Authentic Mexican, Lobster, Mediterranean, French Food, and Tapas.. I ate more cheese, salmon, and mussels in that week then I have in my whole life.. I love all three but I hit it hard on our trip! I know it was our first trip like that and definitely not the last! From the seasoned travelers we spoke with the Excellence was their favorite or tied with another resort as their favorite. I really truly hope we can go back someday. When we came home we were sad that we had nothing to look forward to. A little dramatic I know, but there was only one or two tantrums that involved kicking and screaming at the bottom of stairs and rants about returning to "normal" life. (okay I threw both tantrums)

Well this was another extremely long, rambling post. I put a few pictures on Facebook and here are a few more. This weekend we head back to Holstein as my Baby Broder is no longer a baby. T. Riley graduates from High School on Sunday. My how time flies. It seems like just yesterday he was yelling from the bathroom for me to come wipe his butt.. They grow up so fast don't they?? He will love that I put that on here..Ha Ha! So another wonderful event to blog about! I hope I didn't burn you out on the long post bloggers, but if I did, too bad!

I can't wait to go on my honeymoon now! I loved this post. I actually read it out loud to a friend of mine who was visiting. Brooke and I both want you to move to our cities so we can be best friends. I have a crush on you, Mo.

Great rundown of your hot Mexican getaway! You both look fabulous! Vacation agrees with you. Doesn't it agree with everyone? Glad you finally got to go on your honeymoon and it turned out to be everything you had hoped. I agree, who needs activities when there is sleeping, beaching, pooling, napping and drinking! That is an awesome lineup!

It must be genetic! My first pick when planning a vacation is always the water and yes, I have to have a view!! Sounds like you had a great time.
